Idioma Inglês. The field of Functional Neurosurgery is expanding rapidly. Benefiting from new com-puting, imaging and hardware technology, functional neurosurgery is presently in the up-front of neurosurgical technical development. Many concepts, initially intrinsic to functional neurosurgery, such as neuronavigation and intraoperative mapping, spread widely to general neurosurgery, and are extensively used in tumor, vascular and spine surgery.Brazilian functional neurosurgery evolved fast over the last years. Young surgeons, well trained in both international and Brazilian centers, currently represent the core of the Bra-zilian Functional Neurosurgery Society (SBENF). SBENF is consolidating its approach to technical and regulatory issues that are relevant to functional neurosurgery.
